There’s an ongoing battle for ownership of the mega-million dollar newspaper, Newsday. The company launched by Daniel Chookolingo in 1993, is getting no media publicity because two years after its launch, the daily immediately became the fastest selling newspaper in Trinidad and Tobago outstripping the then 30-year old Trinidad Express and the mighty Guardian which was then over 75 years old. Both newspaper and their vast billion dollar media outfits have remained silent since the case was filed in the High Court in 2014.While Newsday’s up-to-date value remains shrouded, there was a valuation done a decade ago which put its worth at over $200 million dollars. Sources close to Mr Chookolingo says this is a bogus value which was given by the Steve Castagne controlled board to buy out minority shareholders to gain full control of his company.

Crooked Attorney, Auditors Implicated
TTJF today publishes the latest letter that exposes the white collar crookedness involving hundreds of millions of dollars that takes place right here in T&T with companies we all know. This article touches on the mega corruption at Newsday involving professionals (attorneys and auditors) and the One Percent who parade about the place as lily white if we are to believe Gregory Aboud of DOMA.
The new revelations were sent by Newsday’s founder, Daniel Chookolingo in a private letter intercepted by TTJF.
As a matter of interest, Newsday’s Suzanne Mills, daughter of veteran journalist, Mrs Therese Mills who was wrongly referred to as a co-founder, was apparently murdered after she told Mr Daniel Chookolingo that people at Newsday were trying to kill her when she sided with his case.

Dawn vs Castagne … About Why The $250 Million Dollar Gift Has Evaporated.
-
The joke is on all of you for pauperizing yourselves
While Dawn Ford was preaching disunity and hate aimed at divorcing each of you from the Chookolingo name so she could proceed to hand over the $250 Million+++ to co-conspirator Steve Castagne, Castagne himself was busy promoting me as the founder (or co-founder) because he knew that the Chookolingo name was associated with the success of Newsday and why it became the #1 selling paper when it started. He knew this name is still the foremost name in the media landscape in T&T for credible news even if so many of the Chookolingos children didn’t know.
This is despite Ford’s attempt to sink the name when she dispatched Pedro to a 'set-up' meeting by Lennox Grant to destroy the name, which backfired. Many journalists came out to express their gratitude to Patrick and Daniel for their entry into journalism. Because of this failed attempt to destroy the Chookolingo name, Mr Castagne changed tactics as seen here while the majority of the Chookolingo family failed to grasp the fundamentals.
Therefore, every chance Newsday / Castagne got, they promote that the paper was founded by me, Daniel Chookolingo. This article below is the latest example of that where they promote that I was the founder (co-founder) and lumped Mrs Mills name for good measure. This was published on 16th January 2023.
Newsday co-founder Billy Carpenter dies
MONDAY 16 JANUARY 2023
William "Billy" Carpenter
WILLIAM "Billy" Carpenter, one of the co-founders of the Newsday newspaper as well as its former director and CEO, has passed away.
Relatives confirmed that Carpenter, 79, had been ailing for some time and died while warded at a Miami hospital on Monday.
Relatives said his son Kirk Carpenter, a CL Financial shareholder, died suddenly in Guyana, a week ago. Funeral arrangements are still in the early stages as plans are for Carpenter's body to be returned to Trinidad for final rites.
Carpenter along with Daniel Chookolingo and deceased journalism icon Therese Mills founded the Newsday in 1993.” END OF STORY.
To be sure, it is well known in T&T that I am the founder and Carpenter and Mills were my employees but they were assigned the status of co-founders by Castagne without my authority and in deference to the facts.
Another bit of proof can be seen in a book that Castagne and Dawn cannot deny. The book is called ‘Profiles: Role Models and Pioneers of Trinidad and Tobago’ which credits the name Patrick Chookolingo and Daniel Chookolingo for their media contributions.
It can be accessed on the internet at https://epub.safaripublications.com/firstcitizenstt/profiles/200/ (at page 186)
.
These facts are indelibly written into the history of T&T.
So, while Dawn was bringing down her father and me with her hateful and fanciful stories, the T&T public had the real truth. This truth was used and is still being used to its fullest effect by Steve Castagne to sell newspapers.
These facts are what Dawn Ford tried hard to conceal from all of you as it shows her duplicity and forked tongue. Based on these fanciful stories, she got many of you to accept a miniscule $500,000 each, while the real value to each person is $15.6 million+++ ($250,000,000 / 16 = $15,625,000) plus interest. Plus stuff like the multi-million dollar printing assets that were sold for a few thousand dollars. Your retirement fund that I gave to each of you.
The other assets, i.e. the Mirror assets, were valued at $9 million by Dawn Ford herself and is what was gifted to his children by your father, Choko. The Mirror was then donated to PNM Cuffie in another incredible foolish move that also failed and she then closed it in 2018. The Mirror assets were separate and distinct to the $250 million gift from me.
Anyway, in the last episode I exposed Dawn’s illegal slush fund which she used to pay shareholders against the law. It also exposed the fraudulent activities of her attorney Mr Coppin and the bogus auditors she hired to audit several years of monies which she banked and distributed illegally to shareholders for their cooperation. Well, a couple of weeks ago, on 22nd September 2023, Mr Coppin writes another bogus reply to the “intermeddling” claim stating in one sentence that he denies all that was said about Dawn and her slush fund, the bogus auditors and about his own unethical antics. Not a word that him or the auditors and about his own antics. Not a word was said that Mr Coppin or the auditors are suing me to protect their integrity … which is the normal response from a ‘professional’.
To recap, while the Chookolingo inheritors were easily persuaded by crazy Dawn Ford to abandon their names and the $250 million +++ gift from me for a measly $500,000. Mr Castagne willingly took the Chookolingo name over and is using it at every opportunity to essentially say he is a really a man of the people and can use my name (and my father’s name) to propagate news that people will believe because it’s from the Chookolingos …all this courtesy Dawn Ford.
Divide and rule just like the colonials are still the name of the PNM game.
The joke is on all of you who lost a large fortune when you fell for this massive PNM con job.
But, don’t feel too bad since they have done it over and over again and are experts. There are several hundred million dollar rip-offs these past few years, Petrotrin billion dollar scam being the most notable. There is also the Multi-million dollar Clico rip-off by directors where the same Steve Castagne featured prominently with seven (7 ) One Woodbrook Place apartments.
So next time Dawn Ford says I had nothing to do with Newsday and the $250 million dollar gift I gave, she should know that this is the opposite of what her pal, Steve Castagne is telling the nation.
Daniel
Footnote:
Mills could not be a co-founder since she joined the company only a few weeks before the paper was published… after months of planning. Carpenter was simply my employee. Neither of them were co-founders.
